Flying the Flag in Singapore
The British flag carrier doesn’t disappoint with its Concorde Bar at Changi airport

Last year, the British Airways lounge in Singapore’s Changi Airport underwent a makeover. We recently visited to see how it is holding up.

The main lounge is a good looking space, with plenty of comfortable seating, a good selection of food and a make-your-own drink bar that is stocked with a wide selection of spirits, beer, wine and BA’s own Champagne.

While the same size physically as its previous incarnation, the lounge can now accommodate almost 50% more guests witout feeling overcrowded. That, along with the East-meets-West design concept, is thanks to Singapore design firm Kingsmen and London-based Honour Branding. The walls of the lounge are adorned in artwork from Singaporean and British artists, including Simon Wee and Dr Brendan Neiland.
For First Class passengers and top-tier Executive Club frequent flyers, however, BA has gone above and beyond with the Concorde Bar.

With the intention of creating an air of mystique, access to the Concorde Bar is restricted to those with the code (although an attendant with open the door for you if you prefer or have trouble with the code). With the code entered, the door gently swings open to reveal a stylish and dimly lit (in a good way) lounge that evokes what BA calls “the best in British design”.
With seating for 41 guests that are served by a dedicated attendant, the lounge is the epitome of luxury. There are sofas for couples, private booths, a high-top table for working, and high-backed leather chairs. Black Nero marble and oak flooring add to the luxury. The digital panoramic views of the Singapore skyline that reflect the time of day outside are an interesting addition.
The main lounge is a nice space and among the better ones we have visited, but the Concorde Bar is the perfectly indulgent cherry on top and the perfect way to relax before a long-haul flight.
