The Whitby, the second NYC property from British luxury boutique hotel chain Firmdale, lives up the brand’s high standards with all of the style of The Crosby
British hoteliers Firmdale have nine properties in London (five hotels, three townhouse hotels, and an apartment complex), a Caribbean hideaway, and, since February 2017, two properties in New York City.
The Whitby opened its very luxurious doors on West 56th Street in Midtown Manhattan almost a year ago and it is helping cement the brand’s reputation - if it needed to be cemented.
Situated in Midtown, the 86-room property is surrounded by bars, restaurants and galleries and museums of all kinds, including MOMA as well as New York landmarks like Carnegie Hall and Central Park.
Each room has been individually designed by brand co-founder Kit Kemp herself and with floor-to-ceiling windows. Many rooms have private terraces that offer fantastic views of Manhattan
Elsewhere there is the spacious Whitby Bar and Restaurant. With its beautiful 30 foot pewter bar and upholstered banquettes, the dining room is open from 7am. for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner as well as morning coffee and evening cocktails. In addition to serving afternoon tea throughout the day, the Whitby Bar is also offering a special Downton Abbey afternoon tea package to celebrate the arrival of Downton Abbey: The Exhibition in New York.
Available until April 2, 2018, the package includes an afternoon tea that is filled with quintessentially British sweets and savouries including smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches and pear bread pudding. There is of course scones, clotted cream and preserves which are served with a selection of loose leaf teas. The package also includes entry into the Downton Abbey: The Exhibition which is located just a few minutes’ walk from The Whitby Hotel.
