Founded as the Thai capital in 1782, Bangkok is one of Asia’s most bustling cities. Motorbikes and tuk tuks zip along the streets at every hour of the day. The constant sounds of horns can be a bit overwhelming, but the hectic nature of Bangkok is one of the reasons the city is so fascinating.
Serving as a lifeline to the city, the Chao Phraya River snakes its way through the center of Bangkok and still provides an important mode of transport to visitors and locals. Dozens of luxury hotels have popped up along the river throughout the decades, offering romantic river views and luxury boats to zip you up and down river.
The Peninsula is one of these hotels, and happens to be one of the most well known and luxurious hotel in the city. The Peninsula takes up residence right on the banks of the Chao Phraya, with its architecture incorporating a unique design which allows all 370 rooms panoramic, river views.

Rooms are simply decorated but luxurious. Whites and creams feature throughout with light wood that creates a muted elegance. We found that the centralized entertainment and lighting system was a tad outdated (the hotel is 17 years old so we have a feeling a refurb is in its near future) but did make a convenient centralized point for controlling settings.
Bathrooms are decked out in dark marble with Oscar de la Renta branded amenities. The large tub is great for a relaxing soak and we liked that the two sinks has their own separate areas.

Dining at the hotel includes Thiptara, an authentic Thai restaurant which offer alfresco seating right on the river under traditional Thai houses. The food is authentic as it comes, and if you’re looking to hone the chef’s skills sign up for the Thai cooking class which can include a trip to a nearby market.
River Cafe & Terrace is a laid back affair, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Seating is spread out along the river as well as inside (for those surprise afternoon showers). Buffet breakfasts here offer a wide array of dishes including Western and Asian cuisines.

The Lobby offers breakfast, light meals and afternoon tea and cocktails. Indoor seating affords for great views thanks to the large windows, and while outdoor seating isn’t on the river, it does offer nice river and city views. Check out the live music in the afternoon.

The spa offer a haven to relaxation, while the pool’s idyllic location on the banks of the river almost keeps you too occupied to catch up on the latest gossip magazine. The pool also offers snacks and refreshments, idea for sipping a mojito as your sun yourself.
Guests at The Peninsula can take advantage of a number of classes offered at The Peninsula Academy. There is seemingly a class for everybody. Fitness buffs can try their hand (or foot rather) at the Muay Thai kickboxing class, while history buffs can explore the rich history of the Thai capital in the 3- or 5-hour footprints of the past tour. Wine and luxury aficionados can explore Hua Hin, as guests are whisked there by helicopter before exploring the vineyards on an elephant and wrapping it all up with a wine tasting and luxurious meal.
