Nordic Cuisine Comes to Macau

Swedish chef Björn Frantzén will bring his formidable skills to Yi Pavilion at Altira Macau.

Nordic food is synonymous with Copenhagen’s two-Michelin-star restaurant Noma (a portmanteau of the Danish words "nordisk" [Nordic] and "mad" [food]). The restaurant was voted Best Restaurant in the World by Restaurant magazine in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014 and is arguably single handedly responsible for putting Nordic food on the radar of gastronomes all over the roof.

Now Frantzén, who will open his own restaurant in Hong Kong’s Sheung Wan district, is about to start a two-month guest spot at the newly-renovated Yi Pavilion where his menu will be available from Thursday to Saturday from now until December 17. Frantzén made his name at his eponymous restaurant, which closed its doors after eight years for relocation (a new restaurant is said to be opening in 2017), and during that time it was awarded two Michelin stars and was listed in “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.”

He will offer two menus of modern Scandinavian dishes with a subtle Japanese influence. Frantzén Group’s head mixologist Oskar Johansson will be creating a variety of Nordic-style cocktails to compliment the food.

Frantzén has worked at a number of acclaimed restaurants, including two Michelin-starred restaurant “Le Manoir aux Quat´Saisons” and three Michelin-starred restaurant “L’Arpège.” He opened his own restaurant in 2008, and earned his first Michelin star a year later.

The seven-course menu costs MOP688 per person, while the 10-course menu costs MOP1,288. A wine pairing option can be added to either menu for MOP388.
