Fairmont Heritage Place, Franz Klammer Lodge in Telluride, Colorado more than lives up to its name as with decor that is more backcountry ski hut than contemporary elegance, (albeit luxury ski hut) and exactly what you would expect and want while vacationing in a Colorado mountain town.
The Himmel Spa and Health Club at Franz Klammer Lodge offers a range of treatments that help prepare guests for long active days - whether that be skiing or snowboarding or hiking along the trails. Treatments include the spa’s signature High Altitude Duo which incorporates a massage and facial to deliver hydration and help the body detox.
The High Altitude Duo begins with a massage that itself starts with a dry brush exfoliation which helps hydrate skin and encourage the absorption of an oil that is gently applied after the exfoliation. The oil nourishes and simultaneously boosts your body’s capacity to intake oxygen. The result-driven facial that follows aims to remove dead skin while repairing conditions tied to acne, aging, hyperpigmentation and sensitive skin, so don’t expect it to be too gentle.
Himmel Suite, which doubles as the the spa lobby, has an oxygen bar to help those sensitive to the altitude adjust (read all of our tips here) and an alfresco, adult-only hot tub. Six treatments rooms include five massage rooms and one facial room, while the heated outdoor Himmel pool is open 24 hours.
For those that have been hitting the slopes, try the Off-the-hill Sports Massage. The deep-tissue massage uses sports recovery oil which penetrates hard-worked muscles to soothe and stimulate blood flow which helps quicken recovery. The Dallas Peak deep tissue massage delivers the same results by using short, slow strokes coupled with strong pressure from the fingers. Fitness classes are also available for a very reasonable US$10/person and include yoga and pilates.
