We’ve searched high and low to find the most luxurious new accommodation out there - from plush beach-side villas to palatial resorts in the heart of national parks. We’ve rounded up seven resorts that have something special or are a little different with something to suit all tastes.
China

Photo: Kempinski Fuzhou
One of our favorite brands, Kempinski has recently announced that they will open in Fuzhou, the capital of the Fujian Province, on May 1, which is just about perfect for a summer getaway. A blend of ancient and modern China, the hotel is set close to historical sites, including the Han and Tang dynasties ancient city. The hotel will have 327 rooms and suites, with eight dining and drinking outlets including a Chinese restaurant, a steakhouse and a Paulaner Brauhaus. Yunge Grill, located on the 22nd and 23rd floors will offer an outdoor barbecue and a view of the city skyline.

Around 850 miles north in Langfang, Hebei Province, New World Langfang Hotel will open in the city’s central business district this year. The hotel will have 294 guestrooms as well as over 2,500 square meters of meeting space. The rapidly developing city is an up-and-coming IT hub and it is only an hour’s drive from Beijing Capital International Airport, meaning it is sure to be popular with business travellers. The brand, with the majority of their hotels in mainland China, design their properties for discerning business travellers, which is more than evident from the modern and contemporary décor, stylish furnishings and sleek lines.
Japan

Amanemu, from Aman resorts, follows hot on the heels of the brand’s first location in Japan, Aman Tokyo. Set to open the first quarter of 2016, the resort will feature 24 suites and four two-bedroom villas, all of which have their own onsen (hot spring). Located on the shores of Ago Bay in Ise Shima National Park, it adopts a classic Japanese aesthetic in the ryokan tradition to provide a sanctuary that fits with its natural surroundings. Aman Spa will have two expansive onsen bathing pavilions as well as a watsu pool, four treatment suites, a gym and a yoga studio. The resort’s restaurant will celebrate the area’s gourmet heritage of Miketsukuni (land of Imperial provisions), as it was once known as the breadbasket of the ancient Imperial Court. In addition to exceptional nearby facilities that include an 18-hole championship golf course, Amanemu will offer bespoke Aman Journeys that offer visitors the chance to seek out cultural experiences including the UNESCO-protected pilgrimage routes of Kumano Kodō and Ise-Jingū, Japan’s most sacred Shintō shrine.
Malaysia

Another New World hotel will open its doors in 2016, this time in Petaling Jaya which lies just west of Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur. The hotel will occupy the top 12 floors of a dual-use tower which also includes The Azure residences. The hotel’s lobby and 300 guestrooms and suites have been designed by Singapore-based Avalon Collective Interior Design. The brand’s signature Residence Club Living Room will offer complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments and a dedicated concierge service for Residence Club and hotel suite guests. There will of course be a restaurant and a rooftop bar as well as 2,400 square meters of meeting and event space including eight meeting rooms and a ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. An outdoor rooftop pool and gym complete what looks to be another fantastic hotel from New World Hotels.
The Philippines

Shangri-La at the Fort, located in metro Manila, will open its doors on March 1. The 576-room hotel is a destination in itself, located in a mixed-use tower (one of the tallest in the Philippines to boot) with plenty of top notch facilities. All rooms are designed in a minimalist style with accents of marble and silk with pale ivory and beige tones and light Italian wood paneling. Four specialty suites are named after groups of islands and the largest metropolis in the country: Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Manila. Fitness fanatics will revel in the wellness and recreation center, Kerry Sports Manila, which offers, among other things, a spa, tennis and squash courts, and a children’s adventure zone. Of the 14 dining outlets in the complex, seven are managed by the Shangri-La. Among them is Samba, a South American restaurant and bar, as well as Canton Road, a Chinese restaurant offering Cantonese and Huaiyang dishes.
Thailand

Photo: The Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui
With a tentative opening date in the last quarter of the year, The Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui will be located on the north east tip of the island in a region called Plai Laem. As Thailand is synonymous with beautiful, white sand beaches, the locale will undoubtedly be second to none. The nearly 200 guest rooms and pool villas will offer luxurious accommodation with plenty of recreational activities and dining options on offer.
Malaysia

Photo: St. Regis Langkawi
Following hot on the heels of the St Regis Macao, which opened in December, St. Regis Langkawi is set to open its doors on April 6 this year. Set on the Andaman coast, the resort features a large lagoon, an athletic club, an Iridium spa, and of course all the other essentials of a modern high-end hotel including a luxurious pool. There will also be fine dining venues, including the over-water Kaypuputi restaurant and a signature bar which will serve the brand’s iconic cocktail, the Bloody Mary, with a local spin of course. The 85 luxury suites are decorated in bright and light tones that are accented with flashes of colour. There will also be four over-water villas. The location allows for over a dozen different activities within close proximity of the hotel including a crocodile farm, a wildlife park, Underwater World, shopping and plenty of pristine beaches. And of course the hotel will feature its signature butler service.
