Sofitel has recently announced it debut in Kunming, China, becoming the first international luxury hotel in the city center. The 400-room hotel, which opened last month, occupies the 27th to 52nd floor of a tower located in the Central Business District of Kunming.
The rooms (which include 42 suites) feature designs inspired by the peacock, which symbolises Yunnan’s Dai minority, and handcrafted leather wall coverings to give the rooms a distinct Parisian feel.
The hotel is home to three restaurants and two bars. Le Chinois Chinese Restaurant serves authentic Yunnan, Cantonese and Sichuan dishes and features a 360 degree view of the city skyline. Kwee Zeen showcases a selection of Chinese, international and French favourites with live cooking stations, while Lan Pan Asian Restaurant offers guests Southeast Asian cuisines, as well as a Japanese robata grill. Located on the 50th floor is Voyage Bar, a Parisian style lounge which offers views of the city skyline. The Lobby Bar serves up tea, coffee, wine, spirits and a variety of light bites.
The hotel's spa, So SPA with L’OCCITANE, offers holistic treatments that combine ancient wellness traditions from around the world with modern French cosmetology. The hotel also provides a place to keep fit on the road at So FIT gym studio along with an indoor heated pool.
Kunming is the largest city in the Yunnan province and serves as a gateway to other parts of Yunnan such as Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La.
