5 Places to Get Cozy in Macau This Winter

While the mercury probably won’t dip below 10 degrees this month there is still a nip in the air and we find ourselves craving comfort in a cozy bar. We’ve rounded up the top places to head to make you feel warm and snug this holiday season as you enjoy a winter warmer.

MaCallan’s Whisky Bar & Lounge

This classic Scottish den features comfy couches, soft blankets and, most importantly, a large fireplace which makes you forget you're smack dab in the middle of Cotai. The selection of holiday cocktails are a bit too sweet for our liking, so we suggest sticking to the classic old fashioned or whisky sour. Ask for the menu from neighboring Terraza and order a Michelin-starred pizza if your appetite starts stirring. There is also live music after 9 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

Windows Lounge

The relaxed environment in Windows Lounge makes for one of our favorite places to enjoy afternoon tea (you can read our take on it here). Sit in front of the fireplace to soak up the heat and sip on a soothing cup of tea while you enjoy the delicious sweet and savoury morsels from the set.

Macau Soul

Old world charm oozes out of this beautiful wine bar, located right at the foot of Ruins of St. Paul’s and on the corner of quaint little lane in Macau, Travessa da Paixao. A very large selection of Portuguese wines are on offer (over 400 labels) along with a few snacks. The homemade bread and hummus is always a good bet, as is calling beforehand to be sure they’re open.

The Ritz-Carlton Bar & Lounge

Both the bar and the lounge across the hall have fireplaces, and while gin and tonics are the name of the game we urge you to try the popular aperitivo from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, but be sure to book in advance as seats fill up quickly. There is also ladies night on Thursday and tonic specials on Tuesday.

Cafe Panorama

Bundle up for this one, as we’re heading outside. Located right next to Hac Sa beach, the Grand Coloane Resort is by far the most peaceful hotel in Macau. Our favorite feature is the large log burning fireplace located outside on the patio. When temperatures plummet below 15(ish) degrees, they light it up to keep diners and drinkers warm. We were a bit disappointed with the cocktails on offer, so we suggest going on the weekend for brunch, and keep your eyes open for the brand new menu which is set to launch this month.
