New York Speakeasy Heading to Hong Kong and Macau

Livers often take a little bit of a pounding every holiday season, and a very indulgent December – with plenty of mulled wine and spiked eggnog - has made 2015 no exception. But now we’re craving all things wholesome to kick off 2016. With this, January promises (as it always does) to be the healthiest month of the year, but in order to prevent a quick relapse treat days need to be factored in. We’ve penned Jan 11. into our diary, and we think you should too!

Two renowned mixologists from PDT (Please Don’t Tell), the legendary New York speakeasy, will be bringing their significant skills and their innovative inventions to Vida Rica Bar in the Mandarin Oriental Macau. A variety of their cocktails (priced at MOP108+) will be on offer along with a quintessential New York City gastronomic offering.

Located in New York City’s East Village, PDT offers food and drinks that reflect the diversity of the neighborhood which includes the equally famous and infamous hot dog. The Mandarin Oriental’s chef Dominique Bugnand will present his take on the NYC classic (MOP88+).

Can’t make it that evening? Jim Meehan, the bartender and the founder of PDT, and Jeff Bell, the general manager and Diageo Reserve’s World Class USA Bartender of the Year 2013, will also be setting up a pop-up bar, PDT HK, in the Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong from Jan. 5 to 30. Guests will enter through an entrance concealed in a phone booth (mimicking the original) before sipping their way through 12 cocktails. The menu will be a mix of PDT classics and new creations crafted especially for Hong Kong.

We are big bourbon fans at LOL and so the Benton’s Old Fashioned jumped straight out at us. Prepared with Benton’s bacon-infused Bulleit Bourbon, bitters and maple syrup, it will be differnet if nothing else. The Cardinal is a refreshing aperitif made with Tanqueray No. TEN gin, Casoni aperitivo, Italian sweet vermouth, and splashes of grapefruit and lemon and it sounds delicious, as does the 1-2 Punch, which combines Singleton of Glen Ord-based shandy with lemon and grapefruit juice, citrus oleo saccharum and crisp local lager.

The hot dog concept is heading to PDT HK too. A few of Hong Kong’s most creative chefs have been asked to invent their own hot dogs for the menu, with proceeds from each sale going to charity.
