Results Revealed for the Michelin Guide 2016 Macau

The first and by far the longest standing three-starred Michelin restaurant in Macau is Robuchon au Dome, located at the apex of the Grand Lisboa. The 2016 guide was the eighth edition that saw the restaurant receive accolades from Michelin. The restaurant also lays claim to the most extensive wine list in the SAR (if not Asia). Also in the Grand Lisboa,The Eight has just received three Michelin stars for the third year running. It serves up contemporary Cantonese dishes in a beautiful and auspiciously decorated setting.
Zi Yat Heen, the Chinese restaurant located in the Four Seasons, has retained its two-star status for the seventh year running, with Wynn’s signature Chinese restaurant Golden Flower also retaining its two stars for the fourth year running. Overseen by Chef Liu Guo Zhu, Golden Flower offers authentic Tan, Shandong and Sichuan cuisine, which can be expertly paired with a selection of fine teas by Macau’s first master tea sommelier.
Two new additions in the two star section for the 2016 guide are both in the City of Dreams. Cantonese restaurant Jade Dragon, run by Chef Tam Kwok Fung, is known for its traditional cuisine presented in a contemporary fashion. And the meticulously prepared French cuisine of Chef Guillaume Galliot has earned The Tasting Room two Michelin stars as well.
Also in the City of Dreams is Shinji by Japanese chef Kanesaka, one of a couple of brand new restaurants to be awarded a star in the guide. Other new additions include Feng Wei Ju, which opened in the StarWorld Hotel just a year ago and offers Sichuan and Hunan cuisine, and the Galaxy's new Italian restaurant (so new it in fact it officially opened just last month) Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA which received one star in record time. King, located in the AIA building kept their star as did The Kitchen, the modern steakhouse also in the Grand Lisboa. Tim’s Kitchen, a Cantonese restaurant in the Hotel Lisboa, is now in its sixth year of being a Michelin one-star restaurant.
The only Michelin-starred restaurant in the Venetian, Golden Peacock has received a Michelin star, making 2016 the third year in a row for Chef Justin Paul. One of the most affordable Michelin-starred restaurants in Macau, it easily ranks as one of our most frequented eateries in the city.
Wynn’s traditional Cantonese restaurant Wing Lei has perhaps had more ups and downs than any other in Macau. The restaurant started with its first star in 2010, which it retained in 2011 before garnering another star in 2012. It kept hold of its two stars in 2013, however lost one star for the 2014 and the 2015 guides. For the 2016 guide, Wing Lei has held onto its single star. In its first year, Japanese restaurant Mizumi has been awarded a coveted star. Also located in the Wynn, it leaves Il Teatro as the only fine dining restaurant on the property without a star. Il Teatro actually had a star back in 2011 but lost it the following year. The reason it hasn’t won one again since could be because an inspector described the food as “straightforward Italian fare” in the 2015 guide.
Another newly starred restaurant is Terrazza, the Italian restaurant in The Galaxy, allowing the property to boast two restaurants with stars, which is an impressive jump from zero last year.
