Gone is the weekend “social hour” at Palms Lounge in the Sheraton, which is a shame because they offered a good selection of quality wines. Thankfully their new promotion has helped soften the blow and appeals to both beer and wine lovers.
The Sheraton’s paired menu has eight items which have been coupled with a wine and beer. The wines on offer are rated 85 points or higher by Wine Spectator, while the craft beers have been sourced from across the globe, including popular Scottish brewery BrewDog.
Among the pairings on offer we particularly liked the Hong Kong Harbour-style roast Iberico pork ribs that was paired with either the Black Sheep Riggwelter Ale (UK, MOP178) or the Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Riesling Trocken (Germany, MOP168). We also enjoyed the poached chicken and prawn dumplings with chili soy dressing (beware they pack a punch) that was paired with Duvel Special pale Ale (Belgium, MOP118) or the Vergejo, Marques de Riscal, Rueda (Spain, MOP118).
The other pairings are:
Woodbridge smoked ocean trout with yoghurt and truffled honey in choux pastry paired with La Chouffe Blonde d'Ardenne (Belgium, MOP158) or Wieninger Weiner Riesling, (Austria, MOP168).
Fried duck egg and foie gras, asparagus and truffle oil paired with Pauwel Kwak from Brouwerij Bosteels (Belgium, MOP158) or Waterstone Carneros Pinot Noir, Carneros, (USA, MOP228).
Tomato toast with Pata Negra and fried quail egg paired with BrewDog 5 A.M (Scotland, MOP158) or Benoit Ente Bourgogne Aligote, (France, MOP228).
Octopus with paprika oil, olive sauce and coriander paired with Coedo Ruri (Japan, MOP168) or Semillon sauvignon blanc from Pierro X (Australia, MOP238).
Pork bao buns two ways (slow roasted pork belly with black vinegar glaze and Chinese cabbage; slow braised pork with pickled mustard green, brushed honey peanuts and coriander) paired with Chimay Red “Brune” (Belgium, MOP148) or Etna Rosso, Tenuta Delle Terre Nere (Italy, MOP188).
Fresh crab and cucumber baby rice bahn mi paired with Coedo “Shiro” Hefeweizen (Japan, MOP138) or Domaines Ott*Les Domaniers (France, MOP178).
Portions are on the smaller side, which is great if you’re looking for a pre-meal nibble. You can of course order them all if you want to make a meal out of them! If you’re looking to pass up the alcohol dishes can be ordered on their own as well.
