27th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest

If you weren’t in town Saturday to catch the kick-off display of the 27th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest, fear not. The competition goes on for another four weekends - September 12th, 19th, 27th and October 1st, which also happens to be National Day and is therefore a public holiday.
For those that would like to enjoy the show in luxury surroundings, consider heading to the Mandarin Oriental Macau where you can indulge in a lavish dinner at Vida Rica Restaurant (read our review here) or enjoy a celebratory buffet and a few cocktails at Vida Rica Bar while enjoying the shows.
Throughout September the restaurant will be offering a degustation menu (MOP958+ for four courses and MOP1,288+ for six courses). Dishes include avocado cannelloni with seasonal vegetables and Sturia caviar; Boston lobster and girolle mushrooms; and peach and lemon thyme with explosive sugar candy.

Vida Rica Bar will host a Fireworks Celebration Buffet (MOP488+) which includes an oyster and seafood bar, Portuguese cold cuts, Wagyu beef, roasted leg of lamb and other dishes at carving stations, as well as a selection of what we are sure will be delicious desserts. The buffet is offered from 7:30pm to 10pm on evenings the fireworks take place.
Both venues offer spectacular views of Macau and the harbor, especially in the evenings. For the ultimate lavish experience, reserve the Fireworks Celebration Package. Offering one night’s accommodation in a guestroom with floor-to-ceiling windows, and a four-course fireworks degustation dinner at Vida Rica Restaurant for two, this might be the single best way to enjoy the fireworks.

Two teams will compete each weekend, one at 9:00pm and the other at 9:40pm.
The schedule is as follows:
September 12th 9pm - Finland 9:40pm Taiwan
September 19th 9pm - South Korea 9:40pm - Italy
September 27th 9pm - France 9:40pm - Austria
October 1st 9pm - Australia 9:40pm - China
Due to a delay in the transportation of Grupo Luso Pirotecnia (Portugal's competing team) pyrotechnic materials, Portugal’s display will be rescheduled. Stay tuned for more.
