Although Macau is a bit lacking when it comes to alfresco dining options, the patios, balconies, and terraces that do offer open-air alternatives are certainly worth checking out whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner in a peaceful setting or a poolside high tea with the ladies. Here are a few of our favorites.
For a Quiet Dinner
Albergue 1601

Located in the beautiful and historic St. Lazarus Quarter, Albergue 1601 serves up contemporary Mediterranean food in a beautiful century-old Portuguese building. The picturesque St Lazarus area is dotted with well-maintained colonial-period buildings and cobblestone streets that are perfect for a romantic post-dinner stroll. Follow the mood lighting up to the entrance and eschew the indoor seating, as sleek and inviting as it may be, and head poolside to enjoy the tropical evenings before they become unbearable. The authentic Thai cuisine from Chef Pairoj Kaoropwongchai is some of the best in Macau. Read our review here.

Mistral

Photo: Located far enough away from the buzzing Cotai Strip, head to Sofitel to help celebrate a special occasion
The all-day dining restaurant at Sofitel offers a serene outdoor setting that overlooks the pool, harbor, and neighboring Zhuhai. We recommend dinner to catch the final rays of sunlight as it sets over the water, however Sunday brunches are also great and offer activities to keep the kids entertained while you wine and dine.
