The South China Morning Post recently published their third edition of “100 Top Tables” their CEO dining guide. The guide offers executives (and those with executive salaries) a list of the top places to dine and do business in Hong Kong and Macau. General Manager of SCMP Advertising and Marketing Solutions, Mr Romanus Ng, remarked on the growth and popularity of the guide. “Now in its third year, the 100 Top Tables guide has come of age and is increasingly becoming a sought-after dining companion for executives.” Twenty restaurants in Macau made the cut, and unsurprisingly every single one is in a hotel.

Taking the lead with the most restaurants in the guide is the Lisboa Complex, which is quite impressive considering it is only made up of two hotels – the Grand Lisboa and the Hotel Lisboa. A total of six restaurants were included in the guide: Chinese restaurants The 8 and Tim’s Kitchen; Italian restaurant Don Alfonso 1890; Portuguese restaurant Guincho a Galeria; Joel Robuchon’s French restaurant Robuchon au Dome; and classic steakhouse The Kitchen. Don Alfonso 1890 and Guincho a Galeria are the only restaurants of the six to not have Michelin stars, however both have received stars in their native countries (Italy and Portugal respectively), so don’t be surprised if they are awarded their own in the future.

Following closely behind is Wynn, who recently became the only resort in the world to receive seven Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Awards. Three restaurants made it in the CEO’s dining guide: Chinese restaurants Golden Flower and Wing Lei and Japanese restaurant Mizumi. Tied with Wynn is Melco-Crown’s City of Dreams resort, with Chinese restaurant Jade Dragon, French restaurant The Tasting Room and Aurora, Altira’s Italian restaurant making the grade.

Sands China didn’t fare so well, which considering its vastness is surprising, having only two restaurants in the guide: Dynasty 8, located in the Conrad and Canton in the Venetian. The MGM Grand Macau also received two entries for French restaurant Aux Beaux Arts and Chinese restaurant Imperial Court. The Galaxy complex received two entries too, Belon in the Banyan Tree and Yamazato, Hotel Okura’s Japanese restaurant.

It’s no surprise that Mandarin Oriental’s sole restaurant, Vida Rica, is included, having received a Forbes five-star Award and ranking as the number one restaurant in Macau on TripAdvisor. Vida Rica, it would seem, appeals to CEOs, tourists and locals. Once again, Prive in the Sofitel was included as a top table. Perhaps it is the intimate nature of the restaurant – having only 24 diners at a time – that appeals to CEOs.
The entries include all the pertinent information: type of cuisine, contact number, address and opening hours, as well as a brief summary of the restaurant, signature dishes, number of vegetarian dishes on the menu (if any), corkage fee, and if there are private rooms available.
The guide is available for purchase (HKD168) at a number of major bookstores in Hong Kong and will also be distributed to SCMP print subscribers. If you aren't keen on owning a copy but would like to browse through it, pop into a Pacific Coffee shop in Hong Kong to have a peek (or a bit less accessible, select lounges throughout airports in Asia).
