Friday Night Fun at City of Dreams' SOHO

Soho will make most people think of London (the original and a term used since the 17th century) and New York, where it has been used since the 60s. Then there is the much more recent Soho in Hong Kong (a term first used in 1996 according to some sources). In fact the name is now fairly common and usually refers to entertainment districts, but it is also used for magazines (Colombia), skyscraper complexes (Beijing) and TV channels (New Zealand). The latest is in Macau’s City of Dreams. An obvious nod to London, New York and Hong Kong, Macau’s very own SOHO (note all caps) is an indoor entertainment area with several restaurants and bars, and although it is unlikely to gain any kind of worldwide recognition, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

If you were going to visit Soho, which is located on level two inside the City of Dreams complex, we would recommend Friday evening because of the fantastic drink special they have running from 7pm to 9pm. For an incredibly reasonable MOP150 (that’s not even equal to two drinks in Hong Kong’s Soho) you can drink to your hearts content for 120 increasingly inebriated minutes.

There is a limited selection of course (so don’t expect to be able to drink your body weight in Bollinger) but with nearly 20 varieties of wine and beer, you’re sure to find a few quaffable tipples. The selection usually includes one sparkling wine, around a dozen reds and whites and a few beers on tap, which should please those who favor the grain over the grape.

If you’re still standing after two hours, you might as well stay a couple more, as the free-flow deal is followed by a buy-one-get-one-free deal from 9-11pm. Two drinks for MOP50 is an absolute bargain and one that you’re unlikely to find anywhere else in Macau. If you insist on drinking relentlessly day after day, SOHO's Saturday evening deal - all you can drink draft beer for the same price and time - might be for you. Ladies, if beer isn’t your thing you may want to drop by on Wednesday evening when you can take advantage of free flow shooters and mixed drinks from 7-9pm when you purchase a meal.

There are a handful of restaurants in SOHO, three of which offer the free-flow package. Once you buy your wristband, you are free to “bar hop” between them which is great for a change of atmosphere. The participating restaurants are: Shelter Italian Restaurant (who also offers a fantastic afternoon tea - read our review here) and Bar, 777 Sports Bar, and El Pinball.
