In Hong Kong, it seems like a new restaurant or bar opens every day, which is fortunate as we never get sick of trying new and exciting places. If these new places have inviting, chic interiors, creative menus and of course a wide-range of creative drinks, all the better.

The middle of this month will see a new bar and lounge open in Langham Place. Taking over the space previously inhabited by Portal, the 5,500-square-foot space located on the fifth floor of the hotel has recently undergone a facelift. The new lounge, called Alibi, is styled in a sophisticated yet rustic design courtesy of Stickman Design. The lounge can seat up to 140 and has grey and yellow low chairs arranged around small tables, and brown and dark blue and yellow high chairs around the bar. There is a long table next to the “wine wall” which can seat up to 30 guests for private events and tastings.
Alibi’s Chef de Cuisine, Tim Bruges, has worked in numerous restaurants in London and Hong Kong, including 22 Ships. The menu will feature a broad range of cuisine but will have a lot of European and Asian influences. Some of the interesting dishes we know of include Manchego bomba rice fritters, kimchi toasties and bruschetta lardo di colonnata finished with honey, thyme and truffle. The knowledgeable staff can of course recommend drink pairings to go with the dishes.
The full name of the lounge is “Alibi - Wine Dine Be Social,” and that’s exactly what they would like guests to do, along with sharing their experiences on social media. General manager Shaun Campbell urges guests to “instagram dishes and cocktails that they’re tasting here, tweet their experiences and upload photos of the good times they’re having here.” Campbell further explained that as the city’s dining scene has evolved over the years, Alibi would like to socially connect with their guests
On top of offering guests a place to relax and socialize, Alibi will offer wine tastings, mixology art, coffee artistery as well as special social nights offered to social and lifestyle partners.
Open from 8am to 1am Monday to Thursday
