Sofitel Golden Anniversary Celebration

Sofitel Macau hosted the finale of “A Magnifique Journey” on Tuesday night. Parisian dancer Anthony Esteve-Chuecos and French-Chinese singer Lou Wong entertained the crowd of over 150 hotel guests throughout the 45-minute show.
The hotel was the last stop of a tour of eight locations throughout mainland Chinathat hosted the performance to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of both Sofitel and diplomatic relationship between China and France.
In a press meeting before the event, artistic director Lisa Souissa gave her reasons for choosing the two artists for the performance. The ease of displaying an array of different artistic talents was attributed to both; Wong, who effortlessly switches between French and Mandarin vocals, and the different dance styles of Esteve-Chuecos which range from contemporary to traditional.
Both Wong and Esteve-Chuecos gave thanks to Souissa for her time and hard work, as well as stating the challenges of their acting roles.
Throughout the performance, there were four different scenes, starting at a sidewalk cafe located in sixties Paris, where Anthony danced to “Les Moulins de Mon Coeue”by Michel Legrand while Lou sang Edith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose.”
The second scene was set in China, a decade later. Set behind a translucent screen, only the shadows of the performers were visible as they performed a dance set to beautiful, soft music.
Scene three picked up the pace as the audience was transported to St Tropez, where Anthony and Lou were at Dalida auditions. The dancer entertained the crowdwith an energetic dance number, as he made his way around the humored audience. Wong sang her own sultry version of “L’histoire d’un Amour.”
The final scene was set in present day China. Souissa and Esteve-Chuecos performed the tango, symbolizing the close relationship between China and France. The show ended with Wong singing one last upbeat Chinese song.
A cocktail reception followed the show, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine and a selection of canapes, along with the striking view of Macau from the balcony. There was also a giveaway of various hotel vouchers.
