Brooke Shields has joined the likes of Rihanna and Simpson’s character Marge Simpson, by teaming up with MAC cosmetics to release another celebrity collaboration. The recently released collection features shades and finishes that were all handpicked by Shields and based on her favorite looks for day and night. We reviewed the limited-edition Beauty Icon collection.

The first thing that drew me to the collection was the packaging. Light grey with bright orange accents, the color combination is sophisticated and modern, as well being an ideal color combination for autumn. The celebrity’s signature is embossed in orange on each piece.
The collection consists of lipstick, lipglass, eyeshadow cases, a 15-shade gravitas eyeshadow palette, nail lacquers and a cream base.

There are two lipsticks in the collection, one for the evening and one for the day. Excite (a bright orange-red cremesheen) had even, generous coverage and is perfect for day-wear, either at the office or for a champagne brunch, and Gospel (a sheer, rich burgundy lustre) which is ideal for the evening. Each one is priced at MOP210.

The lipglass also comes in two shades, Knockout and Artful. Knockout is another bright orange-red which would pair perfectly over the Excite lipstick for fuller coverage. Artful is a soft mid-tone coral. Although slightly tacky, the lipglass isn’t as sticky as other brands, but still one that I wouldn't choose to wear daily. MOP225 each.

The collection consists of two veluxe pearlfusion eyeshadow cases - Trusted Instinct and Mortal. Designed to be layered and blended, each case comes with five complimentary shadows that are easy to apply - wet or dry. Mortal features a warm peach palate, with Trusted Instinct being a darker plum palette. Once applied, glitter in the Trusted Instinct case tends to be more obvious, where shades in the Mortal case are more discreet and on the frosty side. MOP380 each.

The gravitas pack features 15 different shadows ranging in color (nude to charcoal) and texture ( satin, matte, veluxepearl, frost and velvet). Stand out shades are: Soft Brown, a soft, matte golden peachy brown shade; Antiqued, an ash brown with bronze (middle row, center); Persuade, a mid-tone matte in cool grey brown (bottom, second from left); and Pepper, a velvety dark charcoal (bottom row, right). Of course shadows can be mixed and matched for day and night. Coverage was adequate and the hue remained on my eyelid throughout the day with no creasing. MOP1,320.

The cream nail lacquers are available in Dignity, a soft coral, and Pricey, a deep burgundy. Initially I was skeptical that the thin brush would give adequate coverage, but just two strokes were enough. A single coat was all that was needed. Pricy is an ideal shade for autumn. It’s vibrant, but not too flashy or bright. Dignity is a color I would save for the warmer months. MOP175 each.

Finally there is the cream color base duo that comes in shades of bright coral pink and soft burgundy rose. The versatile cream color base can be used on the eyes, lips cheeks and even body, so if you buy one thing from this collection this is recommended. The two shades are great for blending and mixing, making them a perfect all-season addition to your collection. The non-greasy cream base can be applied alone or with makeup. Another plus is you can easily control the amount of coverage based on application method. MOP250.
