So Spa, So Good

Hong Kong is a great place to live, however, the pollution caused by the thousands of cars, taxis and busses is not so great for your skin. Thankfully, spas abound in the area and are ready to tackle any skin problems we city dwellers may have. This particular instance I decided to take the short 60 minute ferry ride to Macau to see what was on offer.
The Facilities
So Spa at Sofitel Macau has a warm, welcoming environment, and you feel relaxed from the minute you walk into the lobby. Before the treatment beings, you are asked to fill out a questionnaire which allows you to detail every last aspect of your experience. The music, scent and post-treatment drink can all be tailored to fit individual tastes and create your prefered ambiance. The spa has two couple suites, with personal jacuzzis, and four individual suites. Each treatment room has showering and changing areas.
The Treatment
I chose the 60-minute Shea Nourishing Comfort facial (MOP850), at the expert advice of my therapist. Using L’Occitane products, this treatment is designed to repair and protect dry or sensitive skin. After being ushered into our suite my partner and I were directed to shower and change into our robes before receiving a foot bath which left my feet feeling incredibly soft.
The therapists then directed us to remove our robes and lay down on the massage table as they stood by, eyes averted, holding up a towel. More seasoned spa goers will have no problem with this, however therapists at other spas I have visited will usually leave the room for this step, which I prefer.
After cleansing and toning the face, the therapists applied a gentle facial scrub followed by more toner. A light facial massage designed to promote drainage followed, then a mask, more toner, with moisturizer finishing the hour-long treatment.
The whole experience was very relaxing and left me feeling genuinely rejuvenated and my skin noticeably smoother. The post-treatment drink was a nice touch, which can be enjoyed on the socialising patio or in the deep relaxation room.
